| I fell out of a window when trying to sneak out. It didn't quite work. I didn't think the window was that high up.... |

| All better. Except it slightly hurts when I try shuffling, so I've been taking a break on shuffling for awhile. |

yeah shuffling is a great exercise for strength building, but it'll take a while to get the strength back in your muscles, so just take it slow and easy for a while at your own pace.
Make sure to check with your doctor too especially with twisting (shuffle) and stomping (hardstyle) they're both high impact moves.
Depending on where the fracture is you may have to restrict certain moves for a while ( a few months) before you can get back into shuffling.
If the break is above the ankle stomping (hardstyle) might be out of the question because it causes bone compression and may harm your bones around the break. One leg will be shorter than the other !
If it's below the ankle, you can loose a lot of movement in your foot, so twisting may become impossible and your balance will be a bit wonky.
A foot break often ends a pro dancers career, because you need maximum flexibility and strength to perform. You might regain the strength, but you may loose the flexibility of movement you once had.
So for instance, you may be able to skate ok because you've got wheels on your feet and your legs absorb impact and keep balance on a moving surface (the skateboard) Even the plywood board acts as a cushion to absorb your weight.
But with dance, your feet are everything and your legs are deliberately thumping your feet down hard against the ground at 130bpm, for hours, the opposite motion to say skateboarding.
So you are dealing with different directions of impact and stress.
For instance you are far more likely to break bones from skating than shuffling because you are coming off a moving platform at speed, and usually some distance from the ground, and it's usually your arm that takes the full impact and weight of your fall. Skaters knowing they can still skate with a broken wrist, but not with a broken ankle, so the wrist and arm become the sacrifice.
Shufflers rarely have both feet off the ground at any time, so chances of bone breakage - while actually shuffling are pretty rare. But shuffling will punish other parts of the body instead.
Pro dancers have the same wear and tear on their muscles and bones as pro sports people, so by the time they're 30, they're finished at a prolevel and by 40 they move with creaks and bone soreness like a 60 year old.
hehe, your future... |

| Haha. Yeah but I didn't break my ankle when shuffling. I broke while trying to sneak out my window! Lol But still who knows, maybe breaking your ankle while falling out of a window is still rare.
But I checked with my doctor and he said to take extra caution with stomping. But twisting I should be OK with but I have to take it slowly and gradually work my way up. But my jump-styling is going to be taking a VERY long break because my doctor doesn't want me to jump and land with my ankle, and the ankle I broke was my main landing ankle with turns.
Though it does suck because I was getting better at shuffling before my ankle break, and now it's like starting all over at square one. |
