all you need is some more practice and maybe some better shoes with less grip

Yeah, I'm definitely having loads of fun haha. What kind of shoes would you recommend? I hear converse is good...

Oh and question: Is it normal for the arch of your feet to hurt after intense shuffling? Or is that a noobie thing?

Shoes with a flat sole, like skater shoes or those on www.shuffleshoes.biz are good. As long as they have enough support for your foot type.

Yep you will feel soreness in your arches and general muscle soreness around your ankles and lower parts of your legs.

If you haven't done much dancing or regular sport activity before, take it slow, don't push too hard when your legs and feet get sore. Give them a break (hours/days) to recover. Let your muscle strength build up over a few months.

If you push too hard too quick, you tear muscles etc and can be out of action for a few months with hamstring injury or tendon issues.

It's better at the start to do it bit by bit, rather than big long sessions.

Awesome, thanks! I've been shuffling about an hour a day, but I'll definitely take your advice. I'd rather be moving then sitting in bed haha.

I'll be getting some new shoes soon, so I'll look for something in that area. Smile

Yeah, I was really trying. I realized shortly after I posted this video that I was doing the one step though... My shuffling has improved a lot over the past eight days, and it looks nothing like this video now. Lol.

The main problem I'm trying to overcome right now is trying to figure out how to do the RM fast enough to stay caught up to 140bpm. I found these sound files that have a basic hardstyle beat loop that I'm practicing to. It has 80bpm, 90bmp, 100bpm, 110bpm, 120bpm, 130bpm, and 140bpm. I can do the RM (the real two step one ;P) up to 130bpm, but 140 is just killing my legs.

Any tips are appreciated, but I'm assuming it just comes with lots of practice. Very Happy

Thanks for your help guys. I'll post a newer video in a few days to show how I've improved.

-Lev

Oh, and if you want me to upload those sound files that new shufflers can practice to, just let me know. Smile

Ignore the beat speed just go at your own pace. Those faster speeds are not made for shuffling, they are made for waving your hands in the air.

The fast speeds in shuffling are just for bursts. You cannot maintain the energy for more than a few minutes. That's knowledge that's been lost over the years.

Oldskool shufflers would shuffle for hours, but you vary the pace speed and energy all the time, giving yourself periods of rest and smooth movement etc in between the hard energy parts.

Check out the crowd shots in the Global Shuffle Official Trailer and you'll see people stopping with their feet, and just using their arms, then back to their feet etc.

Ooh I see. Well, I tend to enjoy shuffling to hardstyle music, just because that's the kind of music I like. Most hardstyle music is 140bmp though. Neutral It's too easy to get lost in the speed...

I'll work on shuffling to some techno/house and trance for now. Smile

I'm trying to tone down my RM so I'm not using it all the time. Shuffling is so much more fun then the RM...

yeah the music (hardstyle) is fine, but it comes from Europe where they usually dance to it with jumpstyle or just pumping your fist in the air while you hold your beer in the other Wink. So there is less body mass involved.

But as you build your shuffling muscles and muscle memory, it'll all start coming naturally.

Alright, here's a list of what I can do:
Running man
Shuffle
Kicks
Leg spins
'Stomp' spins
Stomps (a slight reverse of the RM, but then goes back into the RM again)

-working on the reverse RM
-working on the moonwalk (killing my toes, need new shoes with stiffer toe)
-working on arm movements (I have some 'good' arm movements, but I often forget to move my arms while I'm shuffling)

However, I am constantly repeating the same sequence of moves to each song I dance to... Even when I try to mix it up the moves still feel dry. Do you have any suggestions on other things I can learn? I know it's all freestyle, but I feel like there's some basic moves I'm leaving out.

This is the sequence I find myself repeating on EVERY song EVERY time:
1. RM for 4 beats
2. Shuffle to the right 2 beats
3. RM for 2 beats
4. Shuffle 1 beat, kick on the second beat
5. RM for 4 beats
6. Spin
7. RM, but switch direction I'm moving for 6 beats (sliding backwards
8. Normal RM for 2 beats
9. Stomp twice
10. Shuffle back to starting position
-repeat-

I just shuffled to a song and did that exact sequence again, give or take a few RM beats here and there...
